1964 년에 영국 버밍햄에서 결성된 "The Moody Blues"는
오케스트라와 함께 녹음하는 등, 락과 클래식 음악의
결합을 시도하여 프로그레시브 라는 용어를 탄생시킨 전설적인 영국의 락그룹입니다.
결성된 이래 지금까지 꾸준한 활동을 보이고 있는 이들은
롤링 스톤즈(Rolling Stones), 비틀즈(The Beatles), 더 후(The Who)
등과 함께 영국 출신 락 밴드의 계보에서 커다란 위치를 차지하고 있기도 합니다.
'분위기 있는 블루스음악'을 연주할 것 같은 느낌의 밴드 이름과는 달리
브리티시 사이키델릭의 새 장을 열었던 실험적인 밴드입니다.
그들이 밴드를 시작했을 때, 세상은 비틀즈의 것이었습니다.
그들 역시 비틀즈의 영광스러운 모습을 동경하며 음악활동을 시작했습니다.
그러나 의도는 같았지만 결과물이
같을 수는 없는 일.그들은 비틀즈보다 조금 더 우울하고, 조금 더 클래시컬하며
조금 더 대중들에게는 어려운 음악을 선보였습니다.
킹 크림슨, 핑크 플로이드 등의 '후발주자 밴드'들에 큰 영향을 주는
프로그레시브 록의 선구자였던 것입니다.
